Muncho Lake
Location: Northern Rockies Lodge is at Milepost
462 on the Alaska Highway/BC Hwy 97
Just off the Alaska Highway, Muncho Lake
Provincial Park provides serene seclusion and some
of the most outstanding natural beauty anywhere in
the North, featuring spectacular folded mountains,
bountiful wildlife and brilliantly-colored wildflowers.
Moose and Stone sheep frequent the area, as well
as mountain goats, bison, elk and caribou. There are
campgrounds at Strawberry Flats and five miles further
north at MacDonald. Daily boat tours highlight the
natural history of the lake. The cold, deep waters, tinted
jade green by minerals, are home to lake trout, arctic
grayling, bull trout and whitefish.
Liard River Hot Springs
Provincial Park
Location: Milepost 497 of the Alaska Highway,
approximately 35 miles north of Muncho Lake.
The second largest hot spring in Canada, Laird
River Hot Springs provides relief to travelers after
a long day on the road. The hot springs complex
is of national ecological significance and is well
known for its natural setting in a lush boreal spruce
forest. Open year round, the Park is such a popular
stop over that the campground fills up early during
the summer months. A variety of travel services and
accommodation facilities are available. Liard River Hot Springs
Liard Hotsprings Lodge is located directly across Provincial Park
the highway from the provincial park.
Coal River Lodge
Location: Milepost 533 on the Alaska Highway
and BC 97.
Established at the site of a WWII refueling depot,
Coal River Lodge offers full hookup RV and tent
camping, showers, laundromat, gas station providing
minor repairs, licensed restaurant, motel and gift shop.
Try a bison burger or pick up some world renowned
BC berry chocolates and jams. Coal River flows into
the Liard beside the lodge, so drop a line in near the
bridge or try a bit of gold panning. The area is also the
gateway to the Kechika and Turnagain Valley.

Location: Milepost 543 on the Alaska Highway/
BC Hwy 97.

Fireside was established in 1942 as military officer’s VC Travel Guide
quarters. The large lodge was destroyed in 1982 by
a devastating wild fire that burned several hundred
thousand acres.

Location: Milepost 590 on the Alaska Highway/ The First Stop In The Yukon
BC Hwy 97.

towing. Although the lodge is located in the Yukon, TOWING
the highway crisscrosses the BC border several more (867) 536-2262
times and the official Yukon border is an additonal 35
