Salcha Alaska Knotty Shop Museum

The village was first reported in 1898 by the U.S. Geological Survey as "Salchaket," a Native name meaning "mouth of the Salcha."

The Knotty Shop, at 6565 Richardson Highway in Salcha offers visitors a chance to view one of the mysteries of nature. The knots, or burls found on Alaskan trees are due to the arsenic in Alaskan soil. This gift shop and museum showcases spectacular samples of this artistry. In addition, there is a free wildlife display of mounted ptarmigan and grouse, 50 antique guns and a variety of arts and crafts available for purchase.
