Prince William Sound Alaska

Prince William Sound, named by Captain James Cook to honor the third son of King George III, is home to temperate rain forest, unique geology, geography and history.

Long exploited for its rich resources, Prince William Sound still offers a pristine vision of seemingly untouched beauty. The generally wet climate and heavy snows of winter maintain the forest and with its significant tides, the shores are continually cleansed. Any sign of the Valdez oil spill in 1989 will only be seen by an experienced eye.

Recreationists and naturalists with varied interests can explore the more than 3,500 miles of Prince William Sound's Coastline.

On Prince William Sound, Whittier, Cordova and Valdez are served by Alaska Marine's Fast Ferry.
