Not only is Columbia Falls known as the Gateway to Glacier National Park, it is the pathway to a rustic and scenic alternative route to the Park at Camas Creek Park Entrance. County Road 486 follows the North Fork of the Flathead, a designated Wild and Scenic River which forms the western boundary of Glacier Park. There are many recreational sites along this route for wilderness hiking, canoeing, kayaking and rafting, fishing, sightseeing, photography and camping. Nucleus Avenue anchors a variety of small shops, antique stores, boutiques and supermarket. A weekly Farmer’s Market offers local fare, live music and Montana crafts. Celebrate Heritage Days the last weekend in July with a rodeo, parade, car show and more. Golf at Meadow Lake Resort and Glacier View Golf Course. Pick world famous huckleberries starting in July on both sides of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Take the kids to Pinewood Family Aquatic Center with outdoor competitive swimming pool and leisure pool or make a splash at the waterslide and mini golf recreation complex. In winter, snowmobile on over 80 miles of groomed trails via the Canyon Creek Trailhead and Desert Mountain or ski Whitefish Mountain. From Columbia Falls, visitors don’t have to travel far to be in the wild, while enjoying all the creature comforts in a relaxed and beautiful setting.
