Location: Highway 93; 11 miles south of Eureka, 41 miles northwest of Whitefish. Population: 184.
Situated in the midst of the Kootenai National Forest near beautiful Lake Koocanusa and the Canadian border, Fortine began as a station on the Great Northern Rail line. Six miles south of Fortine on Highway 93, Dickey Lake offers quiet camping, great fishing and a day hike to Mt. Marston over gradually sloping ridges.
For a special family vacation on a working ranch with a host of special events and kid’s programs, Laughing Water Guest Ranch is located a couple of miles east of Fortine.
In town, Jerry’s Saloon is a great place to grab a bite to eat, have a beer, or even enjoy a round of golf.
