In the shadow of 10,000 foot Hollowtop Mountain, Pony has been described as The Last Best Town in The Last Best Place. Established as a gold camp in the 1860s, it grew to about 5000 people, although fewer than 100 families still live here. The Pony Historic District is comprised of 95 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, many of which still stand and are in use. The town hosts an annual fiddle fest, horseback poker ride, fun runs and Pony Days.
