Alaska’s constitution recognizes that fish, forests, wildlife, and
grasslands are a public resource that deserve to be maintained
in abundance. However, what was promised on paper is not
always delivered.
That’s where the Alaska Wildlife Alliance comes in. Since 1978,
AWA has been the voice for Alaska’s wildlife and is the only
statewide Alaska-founded 501(c)3 organization dedicated
solely to the protection of wildlife. We envision a future in
which our state’s wildlife, including our bears, are valued, our
ecosystems are healthy, and our biodiversity is sustained - and
we make it happen. We have successfully represented wildlife
in over 20 major lawsuits, testified on behalf of bears in Alaska
State and US Congressional hearings, and been featured
in publications like New York Times, the Guardian, The
Economist, and NBC News. Some of our recent successes
include:
• Mobilizing 14,000+ people to successfully ban Brown bear
baiting on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge
• Winning a lawsuit in federal court to reduce the legal
harassment level on Beaufort Sea polar bears by oil and gas
exploration
• Securing protections for Alaska’s first highway wildlife
crossings, giving bears safe passage across busy roads
• Leading Bear Aware programs across the state to improve
human-bear coexistence
• And many more! Visit our website and subscribe to our
newsletter to learn more.
Join us and donate to help Alaska’s bears have a voice in the
decisions that affect them and their habitat. For the same
price as a week’s worth of coffee ($35), you can become an
AWA Annual Member and help save Alaska’s wildlife, from polar
bears in the Arctic to grizzlies in Western Alaska and black bears
in Southeast.
