Valemount lies nestled at the hub of the Cariboo, Monashee and Rocky Mountains near Mount Robson, at nearly 13,000 feet the highest peak in the Rockies and the headwaters of the mighty Fraser River. These mountains provide for unsurpassed heli-skiing and offer ideal snowmobiling and ATV terrain, including mountain trails, logging roads and high plateau; tours are also available.

Offering staggeringly impressive views, Mount Terry Fox Provincial Park is located 10 km north of Valemount off Hwy 5. View glaciers from the air on a panoramic helicopter tour of Mount Robson and Mount Terry Fox. Wildlife abounds in the Valemount area, with common sightings of elk, moose, mountain goats, grizzly and black bear, caribou, mule deer and many varieties of smaller animals. Yellowhead and Moose Lakes support populations of dolly varden, lake char, kokanee and rainbow trout.

The miracle of the salmon life cycle can be viewed every August at George Hicks Regional Park, when Chinook salmon run the entire length of the Fraser River to complete their migration to spawn in Swift Creek. BC Wildlife Watch viewing sites and observation towers are located in the Park and at the Robert W. Starratt Wildlife Sanctuary, a Ducks Unlimited project located right at the edge of Valemount, where rich wetlands wildlife can be observed on foot or by canoe.

Experience the adventure of whitewater rafting or a gentle float trip on BC’s longest and most historic river, the Thompson. Golfers will enjoy the 9 hole Valemount Pine Golf and Country Club, a semi-private course situated on a high, scenic plateau or the Melsview Links Golf Club, a public 9 hole course just south of Valemount on Highway 5. The Valemount and Area Museum features unique homesteading and railroad history.

There are a number of private campgrounds in and near Valemount, ranging in size up to 30 sites.
